Evening Forecast/Discussion 4/23/2024: Grab the Umbrella, Rain, and a Cool-down Incoming!

Good afternoon, Cardinals!! It is rather gloomy out there as a frontal system has slowly been creeping into our area, carrying moisture in the upper & mid-levels in the form of cloudiness draped from roughly the Great Lakes region to the central Great Plains. Meanwhile, a deepening shortwave (strengthening upper-level energy or lift) is expected to reach our area, lifting & thickening the clouds. This will also draw in and squeeze out some moisture along the frontal boundary, creating widespread showers that affect most of our evening plans.

The best chance of showers looks to be between 5 & 8 PM with temperatures falling from the upper to lower 50s in the middle of that shower activity. Meanwhile, some slightly breezy conditions will also be with us during those shower chances, but they’re not expected to be too crazy. We’re projecting the area to have the probability of getting a quarter inch of rain from that activity before it clears out for most of your late night and bedtime. However, we expect conditions to remain cloudy into tomorrow as the system is slow to exit. While this weather may not be exciting because you may need to take those evening plans indoors, it is at least exciting for the plants to get some more water from the heavens as they awake from their winter slumber!
