Morning Forecast/Discussion, 4/22/24: Happy Weather for a Happy Earth Day 🌎

Good Morning, Cardinal Country & Happy Earth Day! If you’re out to plant something or for other ways you celebrate this day, we’re looking to have a better time for that than over this weekend. I know, many of us are back to work and classes, so it’s ironic that warmer weather showed up today!

A phrase I thought of when comparing today’s temperatures vs. the weekend’s. Well said, William Shatner (as Commander Buck Murdock in Airplane 2: The Sequel) (Image Credit: ImageFlip)

A ridge of high pressure has moved further into the area, and we are now on the west side of it. This along with an upper-level trough further to the west over the Intermountain West help enforce a SW wind regime. At the same time, sinking/stabile air are expected to continue clear conditions throughout most of the day. As a result, warmer conditions are expected especially thanks to those winds coming from the better direction to deliver warmth since the source region is the central-southern US which is adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico.

We expect temperatures to warm through the 50s to near 60°approaching noon, with warmer temperatures as you go southwest. Clear skies will continue to abound allowing for the sun – expected to be the feature attraction in our weather – warms the surface of the earth. That sun looks to hang around through the afternoon hours, further optimizing the warming trend during our morning & afternoon hours before some cloudiness comes in from the west along with our low-pressure system coming in out of the Dakotas. This brings our next shot for April showers mainly in the afternoon hours tomorrow. With that in mind, today so far is the better of those two to get outside! Enjoy and have a good one!
