Evening Forecast Discussion, 4/16/2024: Warmest Evening of the Year, Showers & Storms Late

Good afternoon, Cardinal Country! We are at 83° right now with a projected degree of warming & have reached our warmest day since October 4th of last year! While we will not achieve our record high for the day of 88° set in 1976, we’re into the warmth that might feel like that versus last week and is certainly what we’re more used to seeing in the middle of June!! We are watching a warm front creeping in from the south that could spark off the chance for some showers and storms later on tonight, with the best opportunity around or after bedtime for most.

We do risk seeing a stray shower/storm or two fire up early, though, so stay weather-aware if you have mid-to-late evening plans. Especially important to note is the instability that could allow some of these storms to exhibit some strong to damaging winds, with the possibility of some hail. This risk is from isolated storms, so the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has us in a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms this evening.

With clouds building in this evening and moisture coming up from the south (60-degree dew points knocking at our door), it should actually be kind of warm and even a little semi-muggy, especially for folks to our south as the evening builds in. Have a great summer evening, I take it!
