Morning Forecast/Discussion 4/2/2024: Rain exiting, severe storms possible this afternoon

Good morning. Skies are clearing after the rain and storms we’ve had all this morning. Temperature in Muncie as of 9:30 is in the mid-50s, and we will only climb from there this afternoon as southerly winds and some sunshine warm things up. Temps get into the 60s by lunchtime, with partly cloudy skies.

Rain chances look to hold off for the most part, but can’t rule out a pop-up shower or storm this morning from an approaching cold front.

Our eyes are mainly on afternoon potential for showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. Storms arrive at around 2-4 PM, but move by quickly. Things quiet back down by 7 PM. Threats for these storms include large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. The sunshine we see this morning and afternoon could help to fuel an already unstable environment this afternoon. If you look the image below, this is visible satellite, provided by NOAA. All of that sunshine in west-central IN will be moving here, so this is something we will be tracking this morning and afternoon, because the more we get, the more potent our thunderstorms could be.
