Afternoon Forecast Discussion 3/28/2024: Sun vs. Clouds

Good Morning Cardinals! It was a frosty but awesomely sunny start, and we’ve rocketed up from a frigid 27° to the lower 40s around our area as we head into midday! We are watching a wave of low pressure – carrying with it some elevated moisture – that could try to rain on our parade (no, not literally; the lower levels might be entirely too dry for that).

It’s nice and sunny in Cardinal Country, but a contender is ready in the other corner! (GOES-16 imagery courtesy of the College of DuPage NEXLAB:
The upper-level wind energy that could help thicken the clouds – BOOO! NO CLOUDS!

Some light cloudiness is already filtering into Cardinal Country outside our weather office and will gradually thicken up (attaining its highest thickness around or after 2 pm. Meanwhile, the drier air and copious sunlight we’ve had so far will help warm things up despite this cloud deck, bringing us through the 50s by the same point as those clouds become more of a factor. We look to make it to a high of 53° in the later afternoon hours, but if those clouds keep thinner, mid-50s aren’t out of the question – much more excellent than yesterday!

And here is food for thought on this “Something on a Stick Day” (pun intended)… We’re cooking up a warmup!! 60+ temperatures are in store tomorrow & through the weekend! With that said, enjoy and take a bite out of everything excellent this day gives you. Make it a great day, and stay awesome, Cardinal Country!
