Afternoon Forecast/Discussion-3/14/2024

Much calmer, but MUCH cooler weather… (Booo! *thumbs down emoji*)

Hello Cardinal Country, I hope this finds you alright after one wild night. Our hearts and thoughts are with those affected by those furious storms we had last night, especially thinking of Selma & Winchester who are dealing with the aftermath of a destructive & potentially long-tracked tornado. The forecast today is at least a peaceful one to help with recovery efforts, but it will also be a much chillier one than yesterday.

We have continued upper-level energy providing some lift and creating a deck of clouds since we also have some limited leftover moisture around & a strong inversion (warmer air above ground versus normal cooling as you go up) holding it in place after a frontal boundary passed us last night. We are expecting these features to loosen their grip on the weather situation gradually as we head through the evening into the overnight, allowing for some clearing to be possible. We look to see an overall steady increase to the mid-50s as we make our way into the later afternoon. We also have potential for better conditions as we move our frontal boundary again tomorrow as well as those things working to create those clouds, and a high around 60 is expected tomorrow afternoon. That might be sprit-lifting for those who are coming to grips with last night’s storm impacts, or are just having a gloomy day personally. Stay awesome and continue to stay tuned, and we thank all of you that payed close attention to our forecasts as well as the watches and warnings that were issued yesterday.
