Afternoon Forecast/Discussion, 2/8/2024: Windy & Warm, Could the Groundhog be Right?

Good morning, Cardinal Country!! A very fine look and feel to things as we roll into the midday period with some larger breaks in the clouds moving on in, and we’re already more than 10° degrees above the average daily high overall!! We expect a continued & impressive warming on the day as south to south southwest winds will pump in air from the Gulf of Mexico region. A dry atmosphere from the ground up to the upper levels will allow the stronger winds ahead of a potent low-pressure system over the Plains States to make it to the surface, allowing for increasingly gusty winds throughout the day as the system draws nearer into the overnight hours. Current satellite data showing continued breaks of sun on the way combined with that deep and strong southerly flow + the most reliable model data at this point tells us that we should hit a high of 61° today, which is highly significant since the record high for today would be 56°, which was set in 2015! (This is something that should feel familiar since tomorrow’s record would be 62° and that was set last year!

So, with the wind in mind, make sure that you have loose outdoor objects secured & follwo the advice of the National Weather Service if you’re a driver of a high-profile vehicle on those east-west oriented roads because the winds will run right across those roads from left to righ, pushing against those vehicles! Other than that, definitely a day to shed the heavier coatds, and perhaps even the lighter jacket! Enjoy, stay awesome, and have a great day!
