5-day Forecast, 1/25-1/29/2024: “Heat Wave” Underway, but Winter is “Too Legit to Quit”

Late March-like temps starting out, but a system sneaking by this weekend could be enough for a reality check of sorts…

Good Midday, Cardinal Country! I’m sure some of you noticed yourself walking around without the jacket sometime within the past 24 hours, perhaps? We reached a high of 52 degrees yesterday, which is more on par with the average high temperature around the 18th to 19th of March here in Muncie! We continue that theme today as light SE winds continue to reinforce that warmer air in place around our area out ahead of another system that will provide us with some additional & helpful rain later this afternoon into the overnight period.

The rain yesterday and later today should help decrease the area of abnormally dry conditions here in Cardinal Country (Delaware County outlined in red)

We dry up Friday, but the low-level clouds are stubborn so we remain on the grey side but a bit cooler since our wind will become westerly. That continues to flip from out of the west to the north, and then we have a system sneaking by south of the Ohio River Saturday night into Sunday. With the way this system looks, it starts as rain later Saturday, but with enough cold air, there’s enough support for a mix or even changeover to snow. Given the warmth we have had, it will be difficult to get accumulation to occur but plan on slick spots Saturday evening into the morning on Sunday. However, temperatures after this system moderate to a more seasonal flavor from the weekend into the start of next week with lower 40s Saturday to middle 30s Monday. At or below freezing temps return Sunday & Monday night as northerlies pick up with gusts to 30 mph possible, making things feel even colder. Layering up this weekend for outdoor plans with an eye towards some sort of moisture falling from the sky is the game plan, Cardinal Country, but we have our eyes on another warm-up as we get through the rest of next week – stay tuned!
