Morning Forecast/Discussion, 1/22/2024: Slip-Sliding into a Warmer Week

Good morning, and welcome to a brand new week, Cardinal Country! It’s chilly & becoming increasingly breezy, so the winter coat & gloves look to be a good outfit option out the door. You notice you’ll not have to bundle up as much as you did this weekend, though – Temperatures look to rise near/above freezing today!

Speaking of freezing, however, The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective from 7 pm tonight until 10 am tomorrow because freezing rain is expected to accumulate around/above .10″. More could accumulate if the ground can stay colder, and that is a solid possibility since we still have a decent snowpack & frost depth. However, we do have some SSW winds to talk about which will try to bring some warmer Gulf of Mexico air into our weather picture. We will see how these factors affect our weather, but be sure to plan for hazardous travel tonight & tomorrow morning since roads and walkways will become very slippery!

The morning weather does not seem as bad right now, however the radar picture does suggest some precipitation (either in the form of light snow or freezing rain), as well as some reports of some freezing rain/mixed wintry precip to our west. It should stay on the light & widely scattered side, but plan on some slippery spots & taking out the umbrella if out for a long walk later this AM. We will be keeping a close eye on things, and will update you regarding any new developments.
