5-day Forecast 1/18-1/22/2024: Biggest Snow of the Season Tonight, Warming Through Weekend

Good Morning Cardinals! Winter is continuing to be wintry after quite the above-average spell from the end of the fall semester through the holiday break! Given the weekend & early week temps in comparison to today’s, you might be tempted to break out the shorts, but that’s not advisable – yet. We have to get through the rest of the week, which features an Alberta Clipper with snow chances & a reinforcing shot of Arctic air before we eventually climb above average next week.

A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect from 9 pm tonight through 10 am tommorow. 2-4 inches of snow is expected, making for difficult driving conditions, If you must travel tonight or the morning hours tomorrow, leave plenty of extra time, and stay tuned to trusted souces of information on delays and/or cancellations from local school districts & weather plans for your workplace as well.

Watch out for bitter wind chills near and below 0 behind our system Friday into Saturday, too!! Dress in layers like you did earlier this week! We may have some stray snow showers throughout the evening Friday to even part of Saturday, then the skies clear out some as a ridge of high pressure builds in. We then see another system late Monday into Tuesday of next week start as a wintry mix with a rainy finish, but you will notice we look to be above freezing as our wind changes direction and picks up out of the southwest, carrying warmer Gulf of Mexico air into the area and setting us up for potential 40s later on next week. Something for everybody on this 5-day, yes? Stay warm and stay safe, Cardinal Country!
