1/27/2023 5-day Forecast Update: Enjoy the Warm(ish) Weekend, Temps Tumble into Next Week

A sad snowman ponders his melting future as warm temperatures and rain develop
What goes up, must come down – Very Midwestern weather trend, yes?

Good Morning to all the awesome human beans out there from the Cardinal Weather Nest, and Happy Friday! Some of you might be really happy since all this chilly air helps the snowpack for sledding and snow forts sticking around – Maybe some of us could do that? January 27th is “National Fun At Work Day”, according to the National Day Calendar! (Check https://nationaldaycalendar.com/what-day-is-it/ for more details!) It will be breezy as well (winds gusting to 35 mph), so the wind will make today feel even colder, so dress in layers today! We do also have a brief shot at some weak snow showers later on as a weak shortwave system provides some limited lift to cool and condense some clouds and try to squeeze out some moisture while the air is decently cold. On the other hand, we do have the wind switching around to out of the SW ahead of our next few systems, so we may end up eroding that snowpack due to some warmer air those winds will carry and the rain showers we expect on Sunday. (Snow lovers say, “booo!”) Then, winter gets its revenge on the heels of the Sunday system and we introduce temperatures similar to today. Then we are watchful for the chance of some wintry precipitation Tuesday, but that might be tough to come by as the cold northern highs look to try and suppress those systems tracks further south – we will keep an eye on these, and this far out, you can get some decent changes as we move further along in time, so stay with us for updates!
