Wind Advisory, Red Flag Warning in Effect

Good evening everyone! A warm and windy day out there today. As high pressure moves out of the area in wake of a frontal system approaching the area this weekend. This is creating a large change in the pressure in a short period of time and that is what is creating the very windy conditions today. Not surprisingly, a wind advisory is in effect until 5pm tonight for winds of up to 50 mph today across much of the region today.

On top of the wind advisory, we have a red flag warning in effective until 7pm tonight for fire danger across much of the state today. Usually, red flag warnings are not issued outside of very long dry stretches where no rain falls. It’s been not too dry here recently, the main reason why the red flag warning has been issued is due to the high winds and the low humidity has dried up the ground a lot more than what it would normally for this time of year. This has caused the ability for grasses, leaves, and twigs to burn effectively and easily if a fire is indeed started. If a fire is started it will burn out of control. This is why a red flag warning has been issued for the area.

It has been a sunny day out there today and very warm! We’ve made it to the mid to upper 60’s today. As of 2pm Muncie has hit 66°F well above normal and close to yet another record high in a month that has produced many close calls with breaking record high temperatures. We will climb another couple of degrees to 68°F before cooling off around sunset tonight. Going to be a very mild November night tonight with the lows just dropping to 45°F. A clear windy night expected tonight with clouds beginning to build just a little bit overnight as the frontal system moves closer to the area. Sustained winds will continue to be strong with winds of 20-30 mph only subsiding to 10-20 mph overnight and it will be gusty. 45 mph gusts in the daytime hours will only subside to 30 mph by midnight. So outdoor objects will be blown around for the remainder of the day today into the nighttime hours so make sure that those are secured. A good evening tonight for an evening walk tonight if you can stand the strong winds, have a good day and hold on to your hats!
