Good afternoon everyone! It is currently 53°F as of 11:30 am here at Muncie with a mist present right now. Winds are out of the southwest at 9 mph, that is expected to shift to the northwest and pick up to around 15-25 mph when the cold front moves through sometime this afternoon or evening. Temperatures are expected to fall as the afternoon goes on, however we have been holding steady in the low 50’s for much of the morning. Rain…yeah buddy, we’re going to get a lot of that this afternoon! For the time being it is relatively dry with mostly overcast skies however currently on radar is a large area of heavy precipitation just south of Muncie heading north and light scattered showers in the immediate area. An flood warning is currently in effect for Delaware county as we expect over an inch and a half of rain to fall with locally higher amounts possible. With the mostly frozen ground from the cold weather of the weeks past the ground cannot hold a lot of water so ponding will be a significant issue today. The heavy rain will lead to some traffic issues with some roads potentially flooding as a result. The White River in Muncie is expected to rise to above flood stage leading to flooding of areas near the river, even after the rain has passed today. Temperatures will drop to around 40°F by 3pm today as this system moves on through this evening.
