With Spring break right around the corner and many students here at Ball State University going places far from Muncie. It is teasing to take a glance a look for forecasts for a destination. The least thing to do is to check to see if a specific place is going to be wet or not. (Go ahead, find your approximate area of your travel destination.) This map is a rainfall total map for the next 7 days coming from the Weather Prediction Center (WPC). While this map only forecasts up until Thursday of spring break (March 5th), it will give us an inkling of what spring break will be like in terms of precipation.
For Muncie, and as a matter of fact, much of Indiana and adjacent states will be very wet. Muncie is currently predicted to receive 2.5 inches of rain in the next 7 days. That’s nothing compared to areas of Southern Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Northeastern Arkansas which could see possibly as much of 5 inches of rain in the next week. However!! This doesn’t mean that these areas are going to get exactly what the map shows, there’s a likelihood that some areas could get way more or way less rain than what is shown. Still this leads to believe that at least Monday through Thursday of spring break for much of the area could see lots of rain.
What’s bringing this rain? Well signs are pointing to a warming trend as moisture flow from the Gulf of Mexico will bring warm moist air on Sunday. Shortly after this, a strong low pressure system will track and will go right on top of us bringing widespread coverage of rain throughout the area. The system will take a few days to eventually clear the area as more dry air should return to the area by Friday March 6th.
