A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect this afternoon at 1PM. An approaching weather system will cause snow to begin falling around 3-5PM. Snow will continue to accumulate through the evening and overnight hours, making for difficult driving conditions. The primary area of concern with this forecast remains the location of the “freezing line”–the location at which temperatures transition to or below freezing. The location of this line could dramatically shift snow totals.
Our current thinking is that the freezing line should primarily stay south of Muncie, which would bring snow totals of 3-5″ for Muncie and locations to the northwest. Areas to the southeast will likely see a snow/rain/sleet mix, which will lower totals to the 1-3″ range. Again, how much warm air moves in will play a big role in this forecast.
The forecast continues to evolve, so stay with the Cardinal Weather Service as we continue to track this system!
